I have known my friend Fi’s for about 10 years. Back when we lived in Port Melbourne, back when our kids were babies, when we talked about sleep patterns and worried about what kinder to send them to…back when there was always a door open, and a kettle boiled (or bottle of wine open!) when it was all too much. A close group of girlfriends formed through our babies…fond memories, that’s for sure.

As happens, most of us moved on…to larger houses in the burbs, interstate, or in Fi’s case to live in Italy. So now she’s back with her gorgeous family..babies all grown up. I can’t tell you how thrilled I was to be asked to photograph her family, especially when she mentioned that she wanted some wintery shots, maybe something a bit grungy, arty even!

You know what I love the most about photographing families though? It’s capturing the connection, the laughter, the jokes…the love. It was so great to see you guys together…Robbie and Fiona, what a beautiful family you have.

We met at Federation square in Melbourne…what a fabulous location! Then, after a coffee break, wandered over to Hosier Lane…it doesn’t get much more grungy.

Libby was very fortunate, to be given one of my gift vouchers late last year. It took a while for us to sort out our session…it’s always a bit more of an effort, when the whole family is involved….but absolutely worth it.

Time is running out! Melbourne photographer

WOW! How can it be almost May already??

For those who haven’t heard, my family (and I) will be taking some time out this year. Time out from school, work, business…and exchanging it for 3 months of free and easy travel around australia. That’s right…we’re hooking up the camper trailer, and heading off in our car…to explore this great country of ours, and to enjoy some quality time as a family.

Sooooo…if you have been thinking about booking a photographic session this year…IT’S TIME!! Final bookings before we leave (to allow time for processing, viewing, ordering and delivery of your products) will be around MAY 26th 2010. I currently have just a handful of sessions left in the next few weeks. I am also taking bookings for late October onwards…with October almost booked out.

Extended family – Melbourne photographer

I have told many of my friends about the lovely man who contacted me last year…to purchase a gift voucher for his wife for Christmas. Suresh explained that his children were at uni, and felt it was a good time to have some family photographs taken…before they move on with their lives. What a fabulous and thoughtful gift!

So, 4 months later, we met at last. Suresh, Sue and their two (wow how gorgeous are they??) kids. The family also decided it was a wonderful opportunity to have both sets of Grandparents involved. I can’t emphasis enough, the importance of family photographs….having those images passed on to the next generation.

Annie and Toby – Melbourne family photographer

I knew as soon as these two gorgeous cherubs leapt from their car that this was going to be a fabulous session. I love confident kids.

“Hi, I’m Annie, and I’m five, and I….” as you you can imagine, the next 2 hours were full of chatter!

Gorgeous family | Melbourne family photography

I have lived in Melbourne for most of my life…I grew up with our dry, hot summers, sudden cool changes and wet, cold winters (they’re not so wet anymore though..)…so I should have been prepared for the unpredictable weather on the weekend. After weeks and weeks of balmy summer evenings, this one caught me by surprise. It was cool and cloudy…but still a perfect afternoon for a photo shoot in one of Melbourne’s beautiful gardens.

Meet Tania, Sash and their three gorgeous children. We had such a lovely afternoon wandering and exploring the gardens…we had such a lovely time that before we knew it the kids were tired and grumpy…and it all came to an end!

Thanks guys for a really gorgeous afternoon. Your children were absolute super stars…here is a little preview for you:

The BEST family – Melbourne family portraits

Meet Dannii, Israel and their gorgeous young family.

It’s always flattering to be chosen to photograph a family, child or baby…and even more so when the client is a photographer herself!

I have the greatest admiration for anyone with more children than I have…add a set of twins in there….and I know how busy life must be! After 3 beautiful little girls, this family has been blessed with a spunky little boy.

Melbourne family portraits..

I have already photographed Nina’s beautiful little girl twice…as a baby and more recently when she turned one.

So this session was different. Nina wanted some photographs of her extended family…three generations, all together.

It’s a wonderful thing to do…how often is your whole family together?

Funnily enough when I arrived at Nina’s brother’s house, I discovered I knew her sister-inlaw…what a small world!

Melbourne family photography

This is Val and her family. We met, by chance, one sunny melbourne morning at a local market. Val told me she was wanting some photos of her two beautiful Grand-daughters and her extended family.

What she didn’t tell me at the time was that one of her daughters had lost her home in the black saturday fires…lost her home, I can’t imagine that.

So we met up in her backyard yesterday..to take some casual shots of everyone, all together.

Sweet baby Mathilda was all smiles…6 month old babies are just so goregous (and stuck in one place..love that!). I was a bit worried that I didn’t get many shots of little Charlotte. Being a 2 year old…well, she just wanted to do her own thing…so when I got home I had a quick look through my shots, and was thrilled to find this one with one of her nanny’s much loved puppies:
